Spring Football: Rutgers

Rutgers has proven that it wants to remain a contender in the Big East conference. And under Greg Schiano, with better recruiting, improved facilities, and an overall change in attitude, the days of 1-10 and 0-11 as a Big East doormat are history. Rutgers held its spring game Saturday in front of a record 14,501 fans in Piscataway, as the Scarlet team defeated the White team, 28-14.

Senior Mike Teel led the way for Scarlet with 16-of-25 passing for 238 yards. The knock on Teel from my vantage point is that he seems to be rattled pretty easily, but with this his senior year and two big years under his belt, I think he will play a lot better in the big games. And Rutgers will need him and others to step up, because they don’t have Ray Rice to lean on for 30 carries a game and somebody has to make those plays. On the defensive side, Manny Abreu led the White crew with eight tackles and impressed at least one blogger.
